Pisco Sour, the National Cocktail of Peru

The very important work that I do has just led me to edit two articles on Peru. There are different ways to explore this magnificent country, either via train (think Orient Express) or by getting around by car or van. Either way, the destination sounds ideal for you A-Listers who have been there and done that, who want to come home with some bragging rights to seeing some rather amazing sights, such as gazing at Machu Picchu from a mountain way up high.

In both pieces, I noticed the mention of a Pisco Sour cocktail, which, as it turns out, is the national cocktail of Peru. So, I decided to dig in to figuring out how to make the concoction so I went directly to YouTube. Now, I could have come up with just any recipe to show you but I wanted to find the most authentic way to get this thing done.

Without further ado, here is the “right” way to make a Pisco Sour. Did I mention you need Pisco liqueur to do this? Enjoy.

Diane von Furstenberg Resort Pre-Spring Collection 2011-2012

We think this Diane von Furstenberg Resort Pre-Spring Collection 2011-2012 for cruising and for chic weekend getaways is pretty swell. It’s a natural look for all ages and it looks downright comfortable.

Love the yellow drape dress and the flashy red skirt, in fact, the entire infusion of bright colors was neat. Much of this look gave us good memories of NYC in the eighties, when there were some very slimming styles to select from (we are not talking about big hair and big shoulders).

The orange dress with elbow-length sleeves was Twiggy-esque and all things that are good. Happy summer and happy winter if you’re sunning somewhere fun.

Bottega Veneta Cruise Wear 2012

We were scootching around, looking for something to wear on our next fabulous cruise, and we came across this video of Bottega Veneta’s Resort 2012 Collection. We love the long, lean lines of the looks and we think we might actually wear some of this lovely apparel, even if we’re not on a cruise.

Managing Expectations

I read with interest a few years back that an Australian university researcher has unearthed the fact that “matches made over the Internet often do not last because people end up choosing unsuitable partners and forming emotional bonds before meeting face-to-face.” Continue reading

Hotel Splendido, Portofino

By Ruthanne Terrero

There are few places in the world that make you feel as if you are somewhere magnificently significant; Hotel Splendido in Portofino, Italy, is one of them. It all comes down to location: The hotel sits atop a winding hill in a stunningly idyllic port on the Italian Riviera, overlooking Portofino’s cove and the Tigullio Gulf, where jetsetters glide along in their yachts and sloops. Then there are the exclusive homes tucked into the hills; just across from the hotel is the home of the designers Dolce & Gabbana, which draws its own posh crowd when the duo is in town. A Day in Bari, Italy

By Ruthanne Terrero

Bari, in the Apulia (Puglia) region of Italy, has become an increasingly popular cruise port over the past few years. We stopped there on an itinerary that sailed out of Venice, first visiting Hvar, Croatia and continuing on its way along the coast of Italy. Continue reading

In Taormina, Sicily: A lunch of a lifetime

By Ruthanne Terrero

taorminaTaormina in Sicily, a medieval town set high on a cliff is one of the best Mediterranean cruise stops I’ve visited.

Why? It’s authentic. Even though tourists flood its main boulevard, people live here. They stop and greet the gentleman who is sweeping the streets. Mothers walk up and down the streets with baby strollers and cars and motor scooters are everywhere. Everywhere as in, you and your traveling companion having to take turns telling each other to watch your back as vehicles navigate their way down narrow, archaic streets. Continue reading

A Day in Lipari, Italy

By Ruthanne Terrero

I’ve actually been to Lipari twice now. I say that as if it’s unusual because it is really quite a small member of the Aeolian Islands in Sicily. My first visit was on a Silversea cruise three years ago and I’ve just returned from a Seabourn itinerary called “Italian Idyll.” Continue reading
